1 Kings 8:23 (KJV)
23  And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart:

Our Lord is The God of covenant; specifically keeping His covenant with those that walk “before” Him with all their hearts. There is a lot to understand in this verse about God. God can only keep His promises, not ours. God is the God of Truth and Light, therefore, He keeps His power, provision, protection and promises to all who on on His path of Truth and Light.

The Lord can’t lie, neither can He have any part of wickedness or darkness. He does not dwell in sin, nor walk a path of unrighteousness. This verse says we must walk before Him- this means as He commands! We walk in front of God according to His Word so that He can watch and evaluate how we walk; our mannerisms and motives. God’s mercy follows His path of righteousness and the path He sets knows our hearts- the thoughts and intentions we have in our minds and will.

Our feet cannot tread the path of safety without our hands being attached to our Father of Lights, who walk beside us in His paths of righteousness and truth. Just like a young boy, clinging tightly to his father’s hand, we are safe as long as we trust in the guidance and instructions of our wonderful God! Trust Jesus and walk “before” Him knowing He is carefully watching each step in order to ensure your safety, protection and provision.

Micah 6:8 (KJV)
8  He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Part of God’s covenant is what He requires, and that is to walk humbly with Him. To walk humbly is to always acknowledge Him as the “BOSS”. Simple theology is this; “there is only one God and we are not Him”.

Walking with God requires listening and obeying Him- and He does not need our expert opinion. True humility is acknowledging, asking and obeying God every minute of your life. This young male child is very happy to be walking with his father and will be very excited to listen when he speaks. He will be very quick to do what his father asks because he trusts him. This man takes care of his child, clothes him and feeds him, tucks him in at night and makes sure he is warm and clean. This child would never be quick to run to a stranger because he knows his dad.

We also are required to “know” the voice of Jesus and follow Him whenever He calls and wherever He leads. His Father will require it of our hands as to how we walked with His Son and how we obeyed. True humility is like the young boy in the picture. His identity is in what his father says. The young boy has no opinion or self esteem, only in what his father says.

Likewise, your identity is not in what others say about you, or even what you think, but only in what the Father has said through His Word, which is Jesus Christ, the one and only begotten Son of the Father. Take the hand of Jesus and follow Him, obey Him, trust Him and walk before Him with your whole heart and your life will change forevermore.
