The Definition of the Commandments

How many commandments did God give Moses to give to the children of Israel? Would you be shocked if I told you there were not 10 commandments, but 613? That’s right, too many to count. In James 2:10 he said if you keep the whole law and yet offend in one point, you become guilty of all; James was telling us you must keep all 613, otherwise you have broken every single one of them. That’s misery!
It has taken me about 15 years to finally receive the revelation of what all 613 holy commandments of God are speaking about. Every one of them is teaching us about relational life; in other words, they are about how we treat others, protect each other, preserve basic human rights, executing true judgment and living in harmony with mankind. These commandments of God were specifically written to teach us how to love others.
Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Here in the New Testament, Paul told us to place more value on others than ourselves. Does this verse compliment the Old Testament and the 613 commandments? Yes it does, let me show you how, and what Jesus had to say about it.
Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
Matthew 22:36-40 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.38 This is the first and great commandment.39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
Can you imagine that the entire law and all the prophets; the entirety of the Old Testament, 39 books; are summed up into the word LOVE! It stands to reason, because God is Love!
Galatians 5:14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
Romans 13:8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
Romans 13:10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.
KJV
One word defines all the commandments; Agape Love! Today, as Christians, we are no longer under the law but under grace. If you try to keep the law, it will kill you, therefore we fulfill the law by loving. Millions of people have tried to keep the letter of the law and they have been focused on themselves. Trying to keep “themselves” from lying, cheating and stealing; but that is not what the law was designed for. It was to focus your attention on loving others, therefore, you would never break the law if you really loved the other person more than you love yourself! This was an amazing revelation the Lord gave me and I hope it will bless you. This is what Jesus Himself did. He never kept the law but He fulfilled it by following the Holy Spirit who constantly kept His focus on loving others, therefore, He never sinned! Be Blessed!
