James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Famine Hits Kenya

The effects of the drought and famine have reached Kenya with dire consequences. We have recently visited the area of Kiserian in the Maasai area of the Rift Valley and were told that most of the cattle and goats have died from starvation. We know that the Maasai people depend on their livestock for milk and meat. The vegetation has dried up due to lack of rain, so not only do the cattle not have anything to eat or drink, neither do the humans. We have seen on the news, that people in Ethiopia and Somalia are also dying from starvation. We have also received reports that over 200 elephants have succumbed to the drought as well. Our church members who travelled to this region with us, helped to unload a shipment of soy-based vitamin-fortified porridge that arrived in a truck. These food packages are to be distributed to the remote regions of Maasai land where the situation is most desperate. The new President Ruto has obtained the food from US AID for the needy of this country and has sent some of it to Somalia. We thank God for this President, who loves the Lord, and is going to help those who cannot help themselves.

We have “adopted” several families in our area, who have very little to eat. One of the families has 4 children that have a mother who cannot support them due to her addictions, another family has elderly parents who are completely disabled and cannot work. The other family is a single mother of 3 who does work, but part time, and only makes $4.00 a day. We are doing what we can, making home visits to check on them periodically. Almost daily, we have a knock at our gate requesting help. We are continuing to make porridge for our children’s church on Sunday. It did rain for a few hours this week, and most people have planted their crops, hoping for more rain, and an eventual harvest that will sustain them. We are praying for the families in Machakos, as we watch the local cows get very thin. Prices are going up everyday for food.

Short Mission Outreach to “Jerusalem”

We have just about completed our 5th Bible College class. On the 18th of November, our students will receive a diploma after completing 360 hours of intense training in the Bible. We recently took the entire class into the town of Machakos, evangelizing, preaching, and praying for people. It was their practical exam, in preaching the Gospel, and getting experience in being bold for Christ. They did a wonderful job, Some of them had never held a microphone or preached over a speaker. Some of the ones that were the most quiet in class, became the most vocal when they put their fears behind them. They just preached by the Spirit of God. We also have 3 other classes in our satellite schools that will be graduating with a certificate in Discipleship training. We are expecting 300 friends and family to attend the ceremony. We are proud of the men and women who sacrificed their time to sit under the Word of God. Some of them had to travel long distances within Kenya. Two of our students came from as far away as Tanzania and Ethiopia. We provided boarding for our travelers, free of charge, to enable them to come. This once in a lifetime opportunity was taken advantage of while the door was still open.
