Psalm 68:22 The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring my people again from the depths of the sea:

Here the Lord is trying to show us His promises that He will bring us up from the depths of the sea. The children of Israel passed through the depths of the red sea on dry land; God delivered them from Pharaoh and Egypt, which was a picture of prison and the devil.

Jonah was actually in the depths of the sea, swallowed up by death and darkness and God delivered him and gave him life by dropping him onto the dry land. Jesus said He would be like Jonah and be in the belly of the earth (depths of the sea) for 3 days and 3 nights, which was hell.

Genesis 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

In the beginning the earth was actually in the depths of the sea. But when God spoke, the dry land appeared, which was a picture of the deliverance God promised to Israel, Jonah, Jesus and yes YOU!

Hell or sheol is at the center or core of the earth where the waters of the flood were originally. Once the foundations of the deep were broken up, the flood waters were released upon the earth, and paradise, which was Eden, fell into the center and core of the earth. Hell is also located in the same place, and it is where God originally wished to place the devil and his angels. However, Adam made the decision to exchange places with Satan. Adam was deceived into leaving the presence of God and going to hell, and Satan received the pleasure of staying out of hell and remaining in the presence of God.

This situation remained for about 4000 years until Jesus came and fulfilled the 1st verse we looked at; Psalms 68:22. Jesus plundered hell and rescued the souls of men and brought them out of the depths of the sea! Hallelujah! And now the gates or doors of hell are closed to the righteous, and to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord Jesus in heaven. Praise the Lord!
